Job Summary:
The Space Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, development, and testing of space systems for astronomical research. This position requires a deep understanding of space engineering principles and a passion for advancing scientific knowledge in the field of astronomy. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to ensure the successful execution of space missions and related projects.
Responsibilities:
1. Participate in the design, analysis, and optimization of space systems, including satellites, telescopes, instrumentation, and associated subsystems.
2. Conduct research and analysis to define mission objectives, requirements, and constraints for space systems.
3. Develop and implement engineering models and simulations to evaluate the performance and feasibility of space systems.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop technical solutions and resolve engineering challenges.
5. Perform system-level integration, testing, and verification of space systems to ensure compliance with design specifications and mission requirements.
6. Contribute to the development of project schedules, budgets, and resource planning for space systems engineering activities.
7. Provide technical support and guidance throughout the various phases of space mission development.
8. Stay updated with the latest advancements in space systems technology, industry best practices, and emerging trends in the field of astronomy.
9. Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, regulatory, and quality standards throughout the space systems engineering process.
10. Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate project progress, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
2. Proven experience (X years) in space systems engineering, preferably within the field of astronomy.
3. Strong knowledge of space systems design, analysis, and optimization techniques.
4. Proficient in using engineering software and tools for modeling, simulation, and data analysis.
5. Solid understanding of spacecraft subsystems, such as propulsion, power, communication, thermal control, and attitude determination and control.
6. Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices for space systems development and testing.
7. Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
10. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
11. Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
